Description:

The name "Arkoudaina" has its roots in antiquity from the sanctuary of the goddess Artemis, who was worshiped with special honors and sacrifices in the area of the noble.

In honor of Artemis  people gave the name "Arkoudaina", because of the ancient Bear (Bear), which was the sacred and protected animal of the goddess. In Christian times the worship of the goddess Artemis, reflected in of the St. Georgio. The name "Arkoudaina"  is also linked to the Ottoman period whereιν Archontiki lived a princess that helped secretly for liberation from the Turkish yoke. Until one day the Turks captivated her in a place with bitter vetch (calf feed) and ordered her to dance. The lady was gliding while dancing over the bitter vetch and subsequently was falling and getting up, and the Turks laughed shouting "as the Dancing Bear".

A unique Cretan traditional tavern opened in the street Episkopi - Argiroupoli. There, George Vranakis rebuilt the home of his ancestors respecting each traditional character and turned it in a taverna with foods that have emerged from the old traditional recipes of the area called Arkoudaina.
